Keynote Speakers

On Saturday, February 18th, our Keynote Speakers will be giving presentations on topics in Sociolinguistics and Second Language Acquisition. It is an honor to have John Lipski of the Pennsylvania State University & Robert Blake of the University of California at Davis present at our conference.





John Lipski is Edwin Earl Sparks Professor of Spanish & Linguistics in the Department of Spanish, Italian & Portuguese at The Pennsylvania State University. His research interests include Spanish phonology, Spanish and Portuguese dialectology and language variation, the linguistic aspects of bilingualism, and the African contribution to Spanish and Portuguese.  He has done fieldwork in Spain (including the Canary Islands), Africa, Brazil and all Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America, the Philippines, Guam, and many Spanish-speaking communities within the United States.

Robert Blake is Professor of Spanish & Director of UC Consortium of Language Learning and Teaching at the University of California - Davis. His research includes Spanish linguistics (history and syntax), second language acquisition, technology and language learning, foreign language policy. He has published in Spanish Linguistics on topics dealing with historical phonology, historical syntax, modern syntax, and second-language learning. He is co-author of Al Corriente (3rd ed.), a second-year Spanish textbook based on authentic reading materials, and chief academic adviser for Nuevos Destinos CD-ROM, a joint project of !McGraw-Hill, Annenberg PCB projects, and WGBH Boston.
